Rock City Educational Resource Guide

Rock City Gardens is a self-guided interactive tour. Students will be able to investigate the different types of rocks found at Rock City. By the end ofyour visit to Rock City Gardens your students should be able to:

• Identify igneous and sedimentary rock.
• Explain the formation of sandstone.
• Explain the formation of mountains.
• Understand the role of water in erosion.
• Explain different ways erosion occurs.
• Identify various plants and trees.
• Identify plant parts, processes and reproduction methods.
• Develop an awareness of our impact on the environment.

To accomplish this task, teachers may use the information in the Resource Guide to prepare students for their visit. Teachers may want to form small groups of students assigned to investigate together. Students may want to take a small notebook with them to record their observations so that they can be discussed back in the classroom.
